Instant childhood flashback, just add marker

Earlier this week I attended a two day class, for work, entitled Determining Business Requirements. It was a useful class and a good experience but what really made the event for me was a bit of childhood nostalgia. The instructor handed out markers so that we could write our names on large placards, visible to everyone else in the class. The markers were Mr. Sketch and the memories came flooding into my mind.

You see every year at Christmas time my Aunt Jane gave us a new set of these scented goodies and a fresh sketch pad. I remember the smells so distinctly and even the small screech each marker made as you pulled it out of it's styrofoam cradle-like packaging. It's hard to say which fragrance/color is/was my favorite... black licorice? red wild cherry? blue blueberry? Even the brown cinnamon and yellow lemon have their place in my memory.

Swelling

It's not unusual for me to swell...
My fingers swell after a run
My brain swells after a night of too many cocktails
My butt swells after a whole lot of popcorn

However it was my heart swelling yesterday when I received some pictures from a recent race. My sisters Beth & Erika and my little bro Tim ran the Hospital Hill HM in Kansas City a couple weeks ago. It's a tough course, it was a wicked hot day and it was a revenge race for Beth. They kicked it big time.

I'm sooooo proud of them!!!

I am

Everything I eat is from the earth, right
I am what I eat straight up earth, right
Nothing but a walking sack of earth nice to meet you how do ya do
Guess what, ya you're one too
My skin holds me in my brain moves me then boom
I jump straight off the speaker in a form a celebration that we're moving
Freely disconnected I'm truly grateful I'm going back the earth
I'm not gonna waste life being hateful

I am a huge 311 fan. These lyrics always get me thinking and feeling more physically connected to the earth. This is definitely one of the reasons why I love running as much as I do. It connects me to the earth and makes me feel as though I am straight up earth.
